Shopping around but am still unsure

I've been shopping around at several of the electronics stores in the
area (and online, but mostly offline as S&H would be ungodly
expensive) for a decent LCD HDTV but am still not sure which look best
to me. I am looking for a 40"+ tv (and some satellite speakers) and
have approx $2k to spend. I'd be interested in hearing some
suggestions you might have as to which tvs, specifically, I should be
looking at.

thnx,
Christoph

Don't give up on finding a good deal online. More often than not, you
can find the best price and free shipping.

I've done business with the following online merchants and gotten free
shipping every time;

1) http://www.buydig.com
2) http://www.butterflyphoto.com
3) http://www.lcdtvs.com
4) http://www.amazon.com *

* Make sure you know whether you're buying directly from Amazon, or
one of their partner merchants.

With your budget you should be able to get a really nice setup!

Sony's been offering free shipping on their TVs from time to time. Just
checked and they're doing it right now.

Still, the idea of shipping a large fragile TV makes me a bit queasy.
You're going to end up paying sales tax anyway, so if you can find what
you want locally at a comparable price, that's certainly a better idea.

I bought a Samsung 40" LCD HDTV from Amazon with free shipping and no
sales tax six months ago, that I am extremely happy with.

However, with the money you have to spend, Samsung has 3 later series
out now with more features, that you would probably prefer. Also, if it
matters to you, they have some series that are better in rooms with a
lot of light. That's what I have, and the one I chose has been perfect
for me. Good luck in your search!

We've been enjoying a Sceptre 42" for three years now, and I've yet to
find one with a better picture. I heartily reccommend the brand.

CompUSA has a 42" 1080p AOC set on sale for $697. Buy 2 or 3 and forget
the warranty.

Consumer Reports ranks the Samsung models at the top of the LCD heap.

Many vendors offer FREE shipping & handling.

You don't tell us what features you need or how you will be using it.

Make sure it has at least two - and hopefully three - HDMI inputs in
the back. One is NOT enough. For 40"+, a 1080p set comes into play.
Will you be getting a Blu-ray disc player? Or do you currently have
an upconverting DVD player? If so, a 1080p set may be worth getting.

IMO, I would stay with Sony or Samsung.

You're going to end up paying sales tax anyway,

Why?

Sony will add it to your bill.
