Is there something wrong with the EPG on DTT from Sandy Heath? I'm
pressing 'Guide' on my remote and getting nothing. Just reverts back to TV picture. Hope it's not a fault with the telly :-( Marky P. |

Just hope they fix it soon. Don't fancy doing a factory reset. Marky P. |

Hope it's not a fault with the telly :-( Marky P. I have a panasonic too. I've found the EPG to behave like this too. It did this a few months ago, and 'fixed' itself. It's doing it again today. Pressing 'guide' just reverts back to the program. If you use the up or down arrows to go to a high channel number, the EPG works OK. When in the EPG, if you scroll back to lower channels ( below 10 or so ) it flips out of the EPG back to the last selected channel. Either the EPG data is screwed up, or the panasonic firmware is. I have never knowingly updated the panasonic fw, but it may have done so itself. -- Ron |

There's one due at 0310 in the morning that may fix it, so leave your telly in standby to grab it. Marky P. |

Do these people not test their software before letting it loose on the

If Linux could recognise all my hardware and run all my software, I'd have made the change already and be using it now, but I've never found a version that could. Windows may be a bit bloated but it does enable me to use things without delving too deeply into technicalities, which is what it's all about. Maybe the situation will be different by the time I build my next computer, and I'll give it some serious consideration, but not yet. I'm actually a little surprised that you've got hardware that isn't supported by the most recent versions of Linux. Things have got considerably better over the last 2-3 years. I assume it's something like a webcam or scanner? FWIW the likelihood of not being able to find a driver if you upgrade to Vista is actually higher than if you change to Linux. |

I assume it's something like a webcam or scanner? One of them's a perfectly ordinary Belkin wireless card which I'd been using on my spare computer, and XP managed fine with it but neither Ubuntu nor SuSe could see it at all. I did a Google search for suggestions and tried to understand the ones I found, even tried installing a few suggested files but eventually gave up in frustration because life's too short to have to mess with something like this when others (Microsoft) have already managed to make it work. The Wacom graphics tablet doesn't work with Linux either, but I decided not to waste my time trying. The computer is dual-boot, so it's useful to me when running XP, but I can only realistically use Linux for messing about when I'm bored and trying to learn a bit about it, nothing serious. I like the idea of escaping from Microsoft World Domination, but as long as Windows just works, and Linux requires me to learn Geekspeak, it isn't going to happen for me. I did a manual update scan yesterday (go into the set up menu) and it scanned for an update and told me when the next update was due. Also, someone over at AV Forums told me. 2) Does the TV have the tuner powered up in stby to pick these up? I believe it does. Left mine on standby and it updated. Maybe when the telly is on, a date is sent over the air (like a timer setting) telling the tuner to activate at the correct time. This is an assumption BTW. I'll pay closer attention from now on. Marky P. Can I ask you: TV model; Current FW version? Mine's a TH-42PZ85B. Current FW is 1.102 ( no date ). The EPG is working correctly at the moment. In the menus, 'AutoUpdate in Stby' is set to ON, so I guess it does power up the tuner. I did a manual scan for updates, but I got bored after a couple of minutes waiting and cancelled out. Got no message about future availability or anything. I guess it's already picked up the latest update last night ( hence the working EPG ), and there are none further planned at the moment. -- Ron |
