Best Manufacturer for medium size LCD TV?

Hi,

introductory blah blah
As some of you might remember from previous posts, I'm making tentitive
enquiries into LCD TVs.
I say tentitive because TBH, I'm perfectly happy with my existing CRT Sony,
but I fear I may be forced into 'upgrading' to a flatscreen/LCD in the not
too distant future by SHMBO...
With this in mind, I'm trying to find out a bit about the technology so that
I can make some sensible decisions when the time comes!
/introductory blah blah

Question is;
I figure there are quite a few people here, who, one way or another, work
with TVs day-in, day-out, so what I would like to know, is what do people
think is the best manufacturer of LCD TVs, bearing in mind the following:
- We will be purchasing a medium sized screen (32-36")
- We are looking at the cheaper-medium end of the market, 300-500 quid.

I have been looking at TVs in the shops, and I have my own thoughts about
which I think are better than others, but I'm looking for other people's
thoughts on the pros and cons of the various manufacturers...

Regards,
Chris.

with the recession coming, vat reduction and many now offering 5 years (1 +
4) warranties it will be a good time to haggle and buy.

Just stick to the known makes, Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba or Samsung from
reputable dealers that just might survive the recession.

If possible don't by long distance stick near home so you can see the whites
of their eyes when buying..............or returning.

And why have you omitted Philips from that list?

If you can wait a year or so you may be better off, by then TVs with DVB-T2
tuners should be available, able to recieve and show Freeview HD.

LG make a large percentage of the LCD panels for the other
manufacturers, so why have they been omitted?
Also, Samsung's deinterlacers are awful, so I'd never buy an LCD TV
from them.

Philips are an expensive model.

You know, ye find the model at the catwalk. She looks good. Ye wine and
dine her impressively, lots of electrical sparks are flying, she becomes
a bit unreliable, you try for a fix, dodgy construction, lots of makeup
required, she wants expensive accessories. In the end you'd pay to have
someone else sort her out.

Don't get burnt... ;-)

I wouldn't touch any Philips product anymore - after my last TV out of
many from them died just outside warranty. And was going to cost a fortune
just to fix the power supply. If they make a poor design they could at
least supply spares at a reasonable price.
