Sound on BBC1

What has happened to the sound on BBC1. The stereo sound on Merlin and
Strictly Come Dancing is virtually non-existent and the clapping after all
the performances sounds like its being done underwather. Has the bitrate
been reduced and are they using joint stereo?

Sound on BBC1 and freeview talk sport

Talking of sound, listened to talk sport on freeview lately? Sounds like the
feed is from a cheap radio on medium wave turned up into clipping and its
batteries are going down. Its very loud but distorted as hell.

Funny you should say that, I accidentally stepped back from BBC 1 last night,
and selected TalkSport, you're right, sounds every bit as good as its AM
version as heard Friday/Sat nights in local mini cabs.

Mind you, they did have a fire on Friday morning, so that might be a factor:-

I did not know about that. The Guardian site is a pig to navigate, far too
busy with bits overflowing and cut off all over the place from my
perspective.
