Let's hope that new TVs with integrated DTT tuners will also have DVB-T2

TV sets in the shops are HD ready with digital tuners integrated so why
does this article say a box required?
Have they changed the spec. of the broadcast?

Yes you have to buy an HD Ready TV with a digital TICK on and your ok.

The shops tell you that and adverts on TV do so too.

DVB-T2
inbuilt tuners are DVB-T
Also, H.264 will likely be adopted in favor of Mpeg2/3HD..
So you need something to cope with h.264 and T2..

AFAIK *no IDTV* currently sold can cope with these parameters! I saw a
Sony Bravia confidently advertising "MPEG4 reception" some months back....
good for other parts of Europe but useless for the UK!

I have yet to see one on the store shelves ;(...
Sale of goods act will allow customers to return these boxes if they were
missold.. My neighbour tells me that he had a indepth conversation with the
guy in the shop about it and he trust the guy in the shop more than me ;P...

I think that this will not be as bad as the Split-Nit problems have been,
but as a lot of people will not be happy throwing out a £800 tv as they were
a £50 stb then the gov may do something about it..

:P ..
Digital Tick is really only for the specifications of "todays" dvb-t and
encryption/compression formats..
Keep in mind that a few televisions and boxes failed split-nit (those
bearing the digital tick I am talking about).

We are moving to DVB-T2 and Mpeg4/H.264 ... This is something completly
different from the current system.. The MOST likely televisions that could
cope with this would be the odd ones that included USB ports for media
playback of stored data.

0845 6505050 is the "digital" group that deals with the tick, they would
probably not know the answer and spend a few days to come back to you on
it.. There has been some "talk" of a "FreeviewHD" logo appearing..
"Freeview+" logos are basically "Freeview+(and we can record too!)"

But the tick will not mean diddly :P
