The main companies to watch for signs of the real economy being hit are
airlines & telecoms. They are all over extended on credit with low
margin business. i,e. If you have a mobile with Crazy Rorys Cheapo
Telecom, now would be a good time to switch to O2 :-)

Sky must be included in this bunch because they were having debt
problems in the boom years.

Personally I ditched Cable and went Freeview about 3 years ago. Why pay
TeleWorst for what I can get for free ??

I was think of something similar when Children In Need was mentioned

down this year.

IMS sky stopped offering half price deals when a while ago when you
phoned up to have the card switched off - wonder if they are still
playing hard ball .

Sky is like a drug dealer. Very few of its addicts have the capability to
withdraw from their narcosis.

Churn won't vary much from the usual 10% and in any event where one user
quits, another new user can be found elsewhere or from existing users
"friends".

Not so much - it's cheaper to give up other luxuries (such as foreign holidays
or even trips to the restaurant or pub!) and stay at home with Sky
instead!

As others have said churm is always around 10% and has not increased.

Well Scudamore at the Premier League expects to keep his money coming in. He
argues that SKY TV is cheap compared to many other forms of entertainment,
such as taking the family to the cinema or having dinner in a restaurant.
It's certainly cheaper than taking your family to see a live premiership
match!

Sky have been pretty smart on this, the free broadband offer will almost
certainly have reduce the churn rate to close to zero for customers who have
it.

A banker was telling me the other day, Sky TV tends to be about the last
thing to go when people hit money trouble. Most utilities, banks and
other lenders will give you some leeway or cut a deal if you're
struggling to pay the bills, where Sky just cut you off overnight.
There are households where the furniture, cooker and dog are being taken
by bailiffs but Sky Sports plays on in the corner of the room.

I used to work in credit about 12 years ago and remember trying to set
up a revised payment plan for someone who'd been made redundant, and the
one thing they wouldn't give up was Television X :-)

I thought bailiffs weren't allowed to remove cooking equipment.
