New mux planned - Out of GRP A - Crystal Palace

om... Anybody know anything about this? Apparantly there will probably be a mux transmitted on CH42 in addition to the 6 planned ones within group A after switchover. I can't really find much information about this but it's got me wondering whether I should be using wideband aerials on CP unless I really need the extra special oomph of a GRP A....... Anyone got any information on this additional mux? Channel 42 will be one of the PSB Muxes at adjacent main station Hannington after switchover, so it seems unlikely. Although Hannington and Crystal Palace did share channel 29 in the original On Digital DTT system, but that was with a big hole in Hannington's digital coverage towards CP. (Channel 42 is ITV1 analogue at Hannington today.) I suppose they could ultimately get a lot more capacity by sharing channels on adjacent transmitters like Crystal Palace and Hannington in an SFN, but this could only be done on the COM multiplexes which don't have regional variations, not the PSB ones. I don't know if the SFN system works with transmitters that far apart anyway (about 50 miles). |
