Outputs from Sky digital box?

Thanks for explaining that, Mark.

I'm trying to remember now why/whence I gained that impression. Could
it be that the boxes supplied from FreeSatFromSky, as opposed to 2nd
hand Sky HD ones obtained independently, aren't HD?

Yes that's how it works. As Mark tacitly admitted, the £150 fee for
FreeSatFromSky doesn't include HD:

So, actually, I was right ...

FreeSatFromSky has no Hard Disk Recording or High Definition, both
are subscription only.

http://www.johnstonetown.co.uk/sky_f...php?display=HD

143 BBC HD
140 CHANNEL 4 HD
286 LUXE TV HD

Although given there is only the 3 channels with no real prospect of any
more appearing on sky freesat - i removed the link from the nav bar .

Yes you can get these HD channels if you buy a Sky HD box from an
independent, or off ebay or somewhere and use the £20 card you buy from Sky.

You will not get any HD channels from a 'Freesat from Sky' installation
at £150 from Sky as they only install standard Digiboxes.

Use a SCART lead from the video socket on the Sky box to the AV2 socket on
the Panasonic. Press the ext-link button on the Panasonic and use autoview
on the Sky box for acurate recordings. I know this only records CVBS and not
RGB but I use this method and find the pictures perfectly acceptable.

I've used this method to record to my cheapo Funai HDD recorder many
times, but if I try and record to programmes in sucession on the same
channel using 'autoview' then the second programme doesn't record. I'm
not sure if this is typical or just a 'feature' of my old Pace 2200

All bog standard Sky Digiboxes are the same:-

Two Scart sockets; marked TV and VCR

The TV Scart outputs RGB and Composite (CBVS) video, as well as a WSS
flag on Pin 8

The VCR Scart can only output CBVS.

Additionally if you apply an RGB or CBVS signal into the VCR Scart
socket, this is passed through to the TV Scart output socket when the
box is in standby. Useful if your TV only has a single RGB equipped
Scart input etc,

There is also L and R analogue audio available on Phono (aka RCA)
sockets.

Many thanks. Just what I needed to know.

Yes, but it's a little easier than that, potentially. If your recorder
has 'RGB pass through' the trick is connect as follows:

Sky box TV out --- Recorder sat box in --- Recorder TV out --- TV

Your recorder's manual is your friend here for the exact specifics.

My Sky box is set for RGB picture (best possible).

This set-up works for me so that for example:

1) I can watch Sky using if the recorder is in standby.
2) I can watch Sky whilst recorder is recording a Freeview programme.
3) I can watch something from the recorder's HD whilst recording
something from Freeview.
4) I can watch something from the recorder's HD whilst recording
something from Sky.

I use fully-wired scart cables throughout, and I don't see any loss of
picture quality or any audio problems.

The only time I've had that sort of problem is the following week when the
second programme drops off the epg.

Maybe it's just a quirk of my ancient Pace box then; two weeks on the
trot I've tried to record the two episodes of 'The Avengers' on BBC4
late Friday night for the mrs., both times it has recorded the first
but not the second.
