needed power from a sat receiver, but I have a DTT meter that outputs
a 12v supply, so I could use that! Up the ladder I go!

It didn't work :-( The meter powered the Sat Finder when it wasn't
connected to the LNB, but nothing with LNB connected :-( Maybe my DTT
meter's supply isn't powerful enough.

It might not have the current capacity for an LNB. But try it. I didn't
mention a masthead amp psu for that reason.

Serious comment: no fuse at the battery end of the connecting wire
Car batteries will happily provide 100A to a short circuit. At the very
least improvise a fuse by making the connection to one pole
of the battery with a single strand of flex.
Also I am surprised at his suggested technique, I would have said
set the elevation first because the beamwidth is wider in the vertical
plain and you have a scale to set it with, then swing the azimuth
to acquire the bird.

I wondered that too. Anyway, I used a 12v wallwart to power the sat
finder and I wasn't far out with my guesswork! Only needed a slight
knock and it was perfect. I noticed that tightening the bolts causes
the dish to go out of alignment, so I offset it first, then tightened
the bolts to bring the dish back into alignment. Just got to wait for
my telly to arrive (should be next Saturday).

I put an extra bit of tape on the boom arm too :-)
