Be gentle please, I'm a bit sensitive!

AFAIAA D igital O n-screen G raphic . The easily ignored "wee" channel
identifier in the corner or the great big defacement telling you what

Distracting Onscreen Graffiti. It's designed for people who are too
stupid to know what they are watching.

No no, it's designed by people so stupid, they think most viewers need one to
know what they are watching.

Well once upon on a time a long while ago in the very early days of
satellite TV it was useful for station identification...

Especially furrign stations so you knew if you were on the right sat or
not;!..

Easily ignored if it's of a correct unobtrusive size and transparent.

Not if it's large and florescent purple as BBC3 are visually ****ting on us

IIRC at weekends It was very useful to know whether one was tuned into Sat1
or RTL..

Which is none of them.

Yes, and BBC4 had adopted a policy of not showing the DOG during films,
but I notice they've gone back to having it all the time (except
dujring trails).

Apparently BBC3 used to remove it as well during films and drama, then
later just for films. Presumably too many of their viewers got
confused so they put them back on for everything.

BBC3 shows films and drama??!

It's a very useful indicator to tell viewers that there will be
nothing worth watching on that channel so you can switch off your TV
set.
