VHF/UHF preamp

Is anyone aware of a VHF/UHF preamp that emphasizes UHF?
I have an outdoor antenna, and the local PBS digital on
over-the-air channel 2 comes in quite well unamplified,
but the commercial stations using OTA channels 16 and up
are not receivable. I don't want to overload the receiver
on the lower frequency end by amplifying, but I need all
the help I can get at the UHF end.

Any recommendations for specific models? I have seen
some UHF only preamps, but I'd need to know that it would
allow the VHF signal through also.

Most UHF preamps will have VHF pass through. I had to go out of my way to
find one that blocked VHF. If you go to the ChannekMaster web site, you can
find info on their preamps that spell it all out. Get one that mounts at the
antenna. If you barely see any picture on UHF, an amp may not be enough.

To get a true picture of what is causing your problem with UHF reception it
would help if you could supply some basic information. What's your zip code
and what antenna are you using?
I put in a 24060 zip code and see 5 digital channels at a 15 mile distance
in Roanoke, VA with a compass heading between 104 and 106 degree. If this is
any where near your actual location then it sound as if you antenna is the
problem and amplification shouldn't be required and shouldn't really help
your situation.

You have the right zip code, and the information is correct, except for the
fact that there is a close by hilltop directly in my line-of-sight to Poor
Mountain (where the transmitters are) and my immediate neighborhood has
*always* had poor reception. Go a few hundred yards in almost any direction
and reception becomes easy. I have a large VHF/UHF antenna probably 8 or 10
feet long with 20+ elements. I can turn it around and pick up analog stations
from North Carolina and West Virginia. While experimenting the other day I was
able to pick up WSLS digital out of Roanoke when the antenna was pointed
about 90 degrees off the correct bearing. It was pointed at a nearby
water tower and apparently locking on to the reflected signal.

I can see the digital tuner pausing at several points during its scan,
as if it can see some digital signal but not quite enough to lock on.
Now, maybe it's just too much multipath and amplifying won't help.
Certainly, the analog stations are pretty much unwatchable due to
ghosting, but I'd like to give it a try with amplification before
I surrender to the local cable monopoly, or get satellite.
