It does NOT! Only the Humax can receive it in its "non-Freesat" mode!

Yes you are right I have been out tonight and checked.
A Humax can recieve it, but the Goodmans I've just seen can not.
Sorry I got it wrong strange how these boxes are so different for the same
system. But before you all rush out and get the Humax I'm told the Goodmans
which I saw gets a better HD picture, certainly the one I viewed was ok.

Apparently Freesat very tightly defined the capabilities of the STBs
as part of the licence. Humax "bent" this a little by having a "non-Freesat"
mode as well!

Yes - I have seen the Humax picture described as "soft" in HDMI mode.
Component is supposed to be fine.

The one I installed this week looked superb on a Sony Bravia. As good as any
HD picture I've seen. Certainly not 'soft' either in the sense of lacking
contrast or in the sense of lacking definition.

I agree, however, DigitalSpy are currently discussing this and Humax are
investigating.

The person who told me of this Humax thing, also told me it is usual for
Humax other product boxes to be like this.
So maybe Humax will think it ok after their investigation.

I've just replaced a faulty Sky Digibox with a Grundig Freesat box and
the best thing about it is you don't have to scroll through endless
missing subscription channels - you are able to watch everything that's
on the guide. At the moment, it's missing Channel 5 (some may say that's
a good thing) and loads of, mostly useless FTA channels.

Of course, some may say the best thing about Freesat is it's not Sky and
the little black Grundig box looks miles better than the old Sky branded
Amstad box it replaced and the EPG is easier on the eye.

What everyone wants to know is, what are they going to use the Ethernet
post for? If they could develope some kind of "killer app." then it will
be serious competition for Sky. At the moment, I'm not really sure what
Freesat is for.

I got it because it was a cheap and easy way to get the TV up and
running. I'm not sure why anyone would want to go down this route
instead of Free Sky, as things are at the moment.

The have said that they intend to implement BBC iPlayer type functionality
via the Ethernet port by the end of this year. They will also have to think
of a wireless access point as in many houses the TV isn't in easy range of
the broadband router!

At present Freesat's USP seems to be HD (well only really BBCHD so far!)

The answer is no and I don't even have to look at the pace. There are only
about 55 channels available on Freesat excluding duplicate BBC and ITV
regions (and I don't think Freesat has region selection either) and
including about 6 to 10 shopping con and phone-in fraud channels, whereas
there are about 350 FTA channels on Astra2/Eurobird only about 52 of which
are any good and about half a dozen of which are +1 versions of existing
channels. Freesat does not even carry the Luxe TV HD service.

No Five, FiveUS, FiveR, Virgin 1, Sky 3, The Hits, TMF on Freesat.

I read on digitalspy that Five will join Freesat soon but not FIVE US or
FIVE R!
