Just in time for Freesat launch, at 10:25 this morning, E4 and
More4 have gone FTA. No longer require a Sky viewing card or
subscription.

The +1 variants are still encrypted though.

Channel 4 is also FTA, but not on Sky boxes. All can be found on
10729V, 22000, FEC 5/6

Nice one Channel 4!
Edit: E4 +1 and More4 +1 are now FTA as well!

What about Film4?

What about it? It has been FTA ever since it was relaunched as FTA on
satellite and added to Freeview on July 23rd 2006, with a massive
publicity campaign leading up to these events. You can't have missed
it, surely.

Obviously he did. :-)

I'm going up there later today so I'll check it out,

You don't need to go there to check anything. It IS FTA.

Ooh, get you :)

and add the other
channels to the Tivo while I'm there :-)

Better late than never I suppose; the rest of us been enjoying films for
free on Film 4 for almost two years now.

And how much ARE these free films?

The box is also capable of receiving free-to-air channels, it has two

That's the Humax box only - and only then because Humax have
apparently "pushed the spec" and interpreted it in their own way.
Unsurprising, since they have an excellent pedigree in making
satellite receivers.

I don't believe that the Alba/Bush/Grundig receivers operate in
anything other than "Freesat mode", and hence other free-to-air
channels cannot be tuned in.

Is this why we hear rumours of the Humax being recalled and having to have
an update? Maybe to stop extra channels being received?

Disgraceful if so.

It isn't so.

Freesat boxes got withdrawn from sale when they were sold by mistake
during the pre-launch embargo, much to the confusion of the sales staff.
