TV Problem (No Picture)
I realize that this group concens high def TVs, but maybe someone will
know the answer to this. I recently connected a Zenith SR3273DT tube TV that I haven't used in a long time to a cable output and there's sound, but no picture. My first thought was that the tube is shot BUT, when I press the menu button, setup choices appear on the screen. Would words appear if the tube is blown? Unfortunately, I can't find my manual to guide me thru setup, so maybe there's something I need to select to get a picture? |

Since you can see menu choices, you might want to try adjusting the
picture. Perhaps it's just a matter of the brightness set too low, and the menu overrides in case this is the situation. |

Many legacy manuals and troubleshooting guides are available at manufacturers' websites. Alternatively, do a Google search using "Zenith" and all or part of your model #, and may turn up more information. |

You might also check to make sure that you're on the right type of
tuning-- AIR or CABLE. |

In answer to the questions: 1) I looked online...no SR3273DT manual. 2) I went thru the automatic setup and over 100 channels were added. I can hear them, just can't see them. 3) The cable is coaxial and I attached it where it says "ANT/CABLE". I know the cable is good, because I connected it to another TV and it works fine. I also tried connecting a DVD player and playing a DVD. Again, sound but no picture. I called a few TV repair shops and they said it sounds like the tube is fine, but they couldn't figure out (over the phone) why the picture isn't coming thru. |

So, if you've got sound, the signal is coming through. You've got the on-screen menus, so the picture tube is OK. I'm assuming that when you hooked the cable up to another TV, you meant connected the same cable box to another TV, ruling out a problem with the box. So, that leaves some portion of the video processing circuitry not doing its job. The RF signal is being processed OK but the video portion is being lost at some point before where the menus are injected into the picture. A quick perusal of Google suggests this is a common problem with this set. I suggest finding a Zenith-authorized service center and determining if they're familiar with the problem--it would save some diagnostic time if they are. |

My mother-in-laws little TV in the kitchen did the same thing when the captioning decoder was turned on in one of the 'text' modes which sets up a black background and since there _wasn't_ any text to display, it just stayed black. Doesn't cost anything to check. GG |
