sky digibox - universal analog LNB

Somebody is thinking about buying a sky digibox on ebay - but they only
have the old style analog dish and universal LNB .

Can a sky digibox just be plugged in and work as normal ? .

That's what I've got from when I had the Pace analogue box and my
motorised system .I then got a Sky Digibox which for a while I used in
conjunction with the Pace box then I dumped the Pace box and since
then have just been using the Digibox and the answer is Yes .It works
fine .

Dishes and LNBs are not analogue or digital. However a dish used for the Sky
analogue channels would likely be pointing at Astra 1 at 19.2E, whereas the
digital channels are on Astra2/ Eurobird at 28.2/28.5E

Oh yeah .I forgot when I switched from analogue to digital I had to
move the motorised dish to get the other satellite ...at least i think
I did ...can't remember now .

I don't think it cares what is on the transmissions, its just got to be the
right polarisation and be able to see the satellite.

You will have to move the dish from 19e to 28w

and the LNB will have to be compatible, if it's more than 10 years old,
it might be worth getting a new LNB for it.

It would also give them the opportunity to fit a new Quad LNB
which would be needed for Sky+ or for up to 4 Digiboxes.

They are, actually. The LO phase noise spec. is tighter on LNBs
intended for receiving DVB-S than for 'analogue' LNBs. There's no
guarantee that an analogue-era LNB will work properly for digital,
although it might.

c.f. terrestrial aerials: people often say "there's no such thing as a
digital aerial", but there's no doubt that some UHF aerials are more
suitable than others for receiving DTT. Hence the phrase "digital
aerial" does have meaning, IMHO, especially if applied to the
benchmarked products (details in
