NTSC Tuner Confusion

If a TV has 2 NTSC tuners and no ATSC tuner, then do you need an HD
decoder? I have the Sony KE50XBR900 which is HD ready, but according to
hdtvpub.com it does not have the ATSC tuners, which it says are required
for HDTV.

Thanks for the help!

HDTV is part of the ATSC television standards. With no ATSC tuner, no HDTV.

HD Ready means that it will display an HD picture when it is hooked up to a
compatible HD reciever. Mainly, that it has the ability to show HD content,
not that it will out of the box.

So, you do need an ATSC tuner for HD programming.

No....you need an ATSC tuner for DIGITAL programming....any of the 18
flavors, including HD.

======================
In order to receive ATSC (DTV/HDTV) you need an ATSC tuner. Period.
