PC TV Out to HDTV

I'm connecting to my TV from my PC through the TV OUT on my Radeon
X300SE video card. I'm cabling in through a video port on my older
Motorola DCP501 home theater unit. Is there a preferred way to do this
that will get me better video. The picture looks like I'm watching my
old VHS tapes.

We need to know what inputs are availble on the TV.

your tv out is presumably s-video - it's not a HD output and never will be.
to get HD from your pc to your tv you need to use a vga, dvi or hdmi
output - depending on your graphics card - and the inputs of your equipment.
if your card only has one monitor output you'll be out of luck unless you
want to be constantly swapping cables.

Also what native resolutions, etc the TV actually supports, then determine
if the video card in the computer will support that specific configuration.

Thanks. I think I get it now. Looks like I need a cable that has a
DVI connector to go into the PC end and an HDMI connector at the other
end. My TV is 1080i capable.

I use a laptop with DVI out to a CRT HDTV that is 1080i. A simple
DVI-HDMI cable will work for HD video however you will need separate
audio cables for sound and most likely need to run (mostly because it is
easy) 1280x720p. Works great for me!

VGA works great too. I prefer it on one TV since it also controls the TV
turning it on/off with the VGA signal. And there's no noticeable
difference in the HD image.

Has anyone released to high quality graphics card with an HDMI plug?

Essentially the same thing, but I am using a VGA to DVI cable.

Quite a few actually. Google for "HDMI VGA CARD" (without the quotes, of
course). Even the on-board video on my Gigabyte motherboard supports full
1080P HDTV with audio through an HDMI connector. I don't know if any of the
HDMI VGA cards is doing the audio portion so be prepared to use a
different audio path just in case.

Interesting, thanks.

Like the OP, at weekend I visited a friend & tried some HD files from a
Sanyo Xacti HD1000 on his pc (Radeon 9800). Files looked ok on his
1280*1024 lcd monitor.

Next tried the svideo out from the graphics card to a Samsung 26" lcd
tv. Video looked grim, garish contrast, awful.

Next found his son's PS3, so copied Sanyo *.MP4 files onto a -RW dvd, &
same TV this time looked FAR better, but stuttery. Hard to believe the
svideo was so bad in comparison.

I'm currently trying to find out what's causing the stuttering, as
files in camera viewfinder lcd are just fine.
