Long or short advert breaks
A film i watched on one of the 'zone' channels the other seemed to stop
for a advert break about every 10 minutes . Granted the actual breaks where quite short . But as i always mute the sound on advert breaks - this meant i was constantly reaching for the remote control to mute the sound when the advert break starts and unmute the sound when the advert break ends . This means i much prefer long advert breaks . What do you lot prefer - and why . - long advert break ? - short advert break ? PS: users who say they dont want live tv anymore can go **** themselves and keep their gobs shut as that isnt the question being asked . |

Ofcom recommended removing a rule which requires a 20-minute interval between advertising breaks during programmes on commercial channels. But in a package of options sent out to broadcasters for consultation, Ofcom also opened up the possibility of a complete US-style free-for-all. One approach on the table is “letting all channels decide for themselves how often to have advertising breaks”. The watchdog cautioned that viewers had complained about instant breaks being introduced during the American imports Lost and The West Wing by Channel 4, within seconds of an episode beginning. However, Ofcom said it believed that “allowing flexibility for the timing of breaks is likely to be welcomed by viewers as it would allow breaks to be timed to suit the content of programmes”. -- Paul (We won't die of devotion) ------------------------------------------------------- Stop and Look http://www.geocities.com/dreamst8me/ |

It's not the first either! This channel, though obscure, may be available if you fine tune your Freeview box. It was called BBC2. |

Just read this:

Look at it from the perspective of the TV companies. Long advert breaks allow viewers to get up a do something else and are far more likely to be fast forwarded when watching a recording. Short breaks are more likely to be watched as they are less intrusive. If you want free TV then adverts come with the deal. Trouble is, too many here want something for nothing. Well, of course, we all want that but at least some of us don't go beyond the pale and resort to bloody moaning when we can't get it. |

What's the point in having adverts, introduce about 30 seconds of a programme, go to opening credits then more ****ing adverts? Seen long ago on the SCI-FI channel, adverts about 3 minutes before the programme end, back for the end logo then station credits and more ****ing adverts. All adverts do for me is to allow me to decide whether to hop channels away from the station that wanted to get my attention. |
