what make and type (+R or -R) are we using.

I use Philips CD-R for general everyday copies and they are very good so was
going to stick with their DVD+R.

These would be for the higher quality movies.

In my search, for a 10 cake,

Internet - £15
PC World - £25
Ebay - £40 yes £40.

Maybe a 25 cake is the way ahead at £25 delivered.

So are you after 4.7Gb or Dual Layer?

If 4.7GB - look at Asda and Tesco

The only dual-layer worth buying is Verbatim. Anything else = non-stop
supply of coasters.

revised,

I use Philips DVD-R 4.7GB for general film and program backup.

I am looking into Philips DVD+R 8.5GB for higher quality film only backup.

The above makes no sense. High quality can be recorded onto any media
- do you mean higher capacity?

If I record a 2+ hour film on HQ setting it produces a file say 7GB to 8GB
on the HDD. When I want to save/transfer this film to 4.7GB DVD media I must
select a lesser setting say SP or lower to get it all on. This obviously
removes data.......therefore reducing quality.

Whereas if I had 8.5GB discs I could keep the setting at HQ thus keeping the
original amount of data and hence quality.

am I wrong with this assumption.
