No mention of increased functionality. I have recently moved to skyhd. Sky+ and the epg are terrible. I use my tivo to schedule all the shows, and use it as i did before. Whenever a hd channel is recorded i have a record signal sent to the skyhd box to make sure it is recorded in hd. Slightly clumsy, but sky+ functionality is laughable. Gaz Absolute bullsh*t Of course it is. I have both systems, why would i lie? Now with HD, i would love to be able to dump tivo, but sky+ makes me blush, how basic and unsophisticated it is. Gaz Same here. My original intention was to replace my TiVo with Sky HD, but I just couldn't bring myself to be without the TiVo functionality. I only watch/record HD stuff on my Sky HD or if there's a non-repeated clash that TiVo can't cope with. Get yourself the modified irblast software for tivo it will automatically send a record code to the hd box for you when a hd is on..... So far it is reliable.. I have been getting my fill of HD movies... Cheers, I'll look into that. -- Sean Black I agree completely. For ease of use the Tivo interface leaves Sky+ behind (I have both). Why Sky+ can't take some pointers (without infringing copyright) from the you cannot copyright a "look and feel" (something Apple spent a lot of money on finding out). tim |

Can you provide a link to this software? Will it work on Series 1 UK TIvos?. Thanks. Yes, it is specifically designed for uk tivo, it was originally used to get rid of the red interactive spot, and then modified to send the four pin numbers, and now to send the signal to the sky+ to record on hd channels. Do you have your Tivo networked?? http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb...d.php?t=333397 Gaz |

And in any case I presume that you just mean in the US, I see no-one getting sued in Europe. tim |

Their patents have been upheld in court, costing one firm, tens of millions of dollars i beleive. To do with recording on an HD perhaps, but not for the format of their EPG.. Have a look at some of the new Freeview Playback boxes. Was playing with a cheapy £80 Tesco version the other day. The EPG on that is done right... Proper conflict resolution (record the next showing of that episode on whatever channel it's on, automatically and silently) Record related programmes (recording Dr.Who should give you an option to record Dr.Who Confidential for example) Automatic seamless spanning of films that are split by the news (ie. it makes one recording, and cuts the news broadcast out of the middle) See all upcoming recordings of a series, and by extension know what is going to be recorded when (although no prioritisation control in the box I saw). Keeps your series link however long it takes for the series to restart (a thing I miss terribly from Tivo.. Biggest glaring bug in the Sky+ system). Hit record on a programme, the recording and all future recordings are marked on the EPG so you know you've done it. The EPG is variable size, so you can adjust it somewhat for your screen. Closest to Tivo I've seen so far (it looks like the BBC used the Tivo model as their EPG data which gives them this flexibility). All we're missing is suggestions and wishlists we're sorted as far as I can tell. Sky are of course in trouble now. Up until now people (Except ex/ current Tivo owners) have been thinking that Sky+ was the dogs 'nads simply because they'd never seen anything better.. they expect series links to randomly delete themselves, they accept that if you try to record two things then watch another you'll have to delete a series link, they accept that things will just randomly not record and every few months all your series links will be replaced by 'power cut'. They accept that you have to pay £10 a month for the 'privilege' of all these things. Now everyone can go down to the supermarket and get a box with decent PVR functionality, for a one off payment. And that's the first generation Playback hardware.. in 12 months time Sky+ is going to look like a sick joke. *that* is why Sky are 'upgrading' the EPG after about 15 years of sitting on their arses. |
