Have you looked at the movies offered? At least 1/2 are ones I've never
heard of. I managed to find 5 of them I would buy or rent out of 125.
That's 4%.

And Toshiba just announced their entry level HDA3 will list for $149.
Amazon has it for $134 and change.

Looks to me like it most likely will be dominated by foreign and indie
films as the major studios all have commitments to either BD or HDDVD.
Tough nut to crack.

of course not.
without software the machine is nothing - the majority of titles available
for the machine appear to be episodes of lazy town - with each episode
counting as a seperate title.

This will do as well in the USA and Europe as Video CD. Using DVD red
lasers and 5 GB/layer, it is the equivalent of Video CD for the DVD era.
DOA for the US, Japanese, and European markets; big in China so they
don't have to pay royalties for the disks or for the bootlegged movies.

BTW, "kilobits/sek". Kilobits per Swedish krona (Swedish currency)? So
this is a new metric: kilobits per unit of money. Cool.

It is not that hilarious.;-) Cecil is pronounced Sesil. So in Europe we
switched to K for the K-sound. Secund is pronounced Sekund. Your are just
a little (k)onservative on the subje(k)t.;-) It is not proper english, but
it is very reasonnable.

The HDA3 from what I read at Amazon isn't a True HD machine. It doesn't do
1080p. A better comparison might be the HDA30 which is 1080p. They appear
to be priced about the same also.

Funny, I only saw 3 lazy town DVD's out of 125. I saw The Passion of the
Christ, Apocalypto, Pulp Fiction, and lots of others I recognized. There
were foreign films too, but certainly nowhere close to the majority. Maybe
about 20-25 of the 125. Most were certainly movies from what I recall.

I don't think VCD used VMD technology to expand the capacity of the cd.
Personally, i couldn't care less what technology they used to get the
movie on the DVD as long as it was in 1080p HD And since they can do it a
lot cheap with red laser I say more power to them. Right now they're only
using 5 layers I believe for about 24GB of space. They say it's possible
to do up to 20. And they can do it with red or blue laser. They chose red
simply because it gives them all the space they need and it's a lot
cheaper than blue at this time.

Actually it's already been adopted in many European markets, but not in
china yet, unless that's changed recently. Last I read said they were
still in negotiations with the Chinese markets. If they get China, that'll
give them roughly 2/3 or more of the worlds population. I wouldn't count
them out yet. The one comparison review I read gave it the win over both
blu-ray and hd-dvd. Most notable was the almost immediate playing of the
inserted DVD compared to something really bad about hd-dvd and blu-ray.
Don't recall the exact comment he used about the speed of blu-ray and hd-
dvd by comparison, but it wasn't nice.:-)
Picture of all three were very similar, but operation wise, the HD-VND won
hands down.

But one can get a discount price here. Basically enhanced model for the
price of the basic.

Most articles and discussions I've read say that at the distances most
people watch the TV, they can't tell the difference between 1080i and
1080p.

While the videophile and of course, those that spent a bunch on that new
1080p set will swear they can, I sure couldn't. Which is why I didn't
upgrade my 61"

And BTW, HD is defined starting at 720p, I believe.
