HDTV Comcast recording shows

Hey all-

I have the HD PVR box from comcast and it is terrible. However I enjoy
the basic functionality of recording shows.

My goal is to be able to record regular standard programming HD shows
and be able to play them back on my television. For example record a
sports game on FOX and watch it later.

What are my options? Thanks

Nate

As a practical matter, just 2; the DVR provided by your cable company
or an HD Tivo.

There's lot's of options. But your best choice will depend on several
things. First, I'd check with your provider and see if they offer a DVR
that will also take an antenna input to also record OTA ATSC programs. If
they offer that, and you don't need to record more than 2 programs total
at a time (or watch one live and record one) then might be your best
choice. If they don't offer such a recorder, then a Tivo HD would do just
that. The big problem I have with Tivos is the never ending expensive
subscription fees, which in the end make it relatively expensive. The Tivo-
HD would replace the cable co. DVR receiver.

Other options include using a PC to record the OTA ATSC programs. This
would leave your current cable dvr in place and add additional tuners for
OTA ATSC, NTSC, clear QAM, firewire, or whatever you decide to put in it.
There are many advantages to this method, but interfacing it to encrypted
digital cable without going through the cable box to record their
encrypted programs is not an option at this time and may never be. But
this would be the only method I'd recommend for OTA recording alone.

See links below for more info.

Have you had Comcast in to check it out? Mine works great.
