I have tried to find a figure on their web site but it seems they don't produce the same kind of Quaterly results as, say, VM. As a private company they don't have to. Graham Nice get out clause that, isn't it ;-) Get out of what ? Graham |

Have you forgotten your post of 15:09 on the 30th?,,,,you were getting a speed of 5713kbs,that's over 25% less than the headline 8mbs and even considerably slower than some other links you've posted......seems like more than a little slowdown there. That's what I call a 'little slowdown'. It's STILL 80% of the maximum theoretical possible, unlike the 12% I was getting with VM at peak times. Graham 20% is not a "little slowdown". YES IT IS No it's not....5% may be little but 20% is a substantial slowdown And 88% is a BIG slowdown. I never said it wasn't. I notice tho that the 88% slowdown is from VM's headline speed but your 20% with Idnet is from 7150kbs not the headline speed of 8mbs.Lets compare like like and your slowdown from the headline speed is,in fact, closer to 30% not 20%.Plus,as i posted earlier,it wasn't at peak times either. Looks like your Idnet service isn't as flawless as you would have people believe. Silly child |

(OP is considering swapping) However my major concern is that currently I'm very happy what VM delivers, notably our broadband has hardly ever gone down and works extremely efficiently. I've hardly ever had to get involved with the notorious Customer Service, just because I have no need of them. Why not ditch the TV and phone, and speak to Retentions to get a deal on the broadband. Well thanks to all for the input - much appreciated even if the thread has now drifted off a bit ;-) I've now been convinced that I should definitely stick with VM for broadband, so have just had a conversation with their Retentions during which the codeword "$ky" might have been mentioned: without so much as a murmur I was offered 35 GBP for the same package, which I agreed to (maybe I should have held out for more given the alacrity with which that offer was made!). Anyway, good outcome as far as I'm concerned, even if it does mean the kids can whistle for their Sky1! Thanks David |

I'll just say "Kids, sorry, but there'll be no Sky One", and that'll be the end of it. ;-) David |

"Lobster" wrote in message ... Therefore I'm wondering if I'm just setting myself up for a fall by switching away from VM, apparently without knowing how good the competitive service will be until it's up and running? I live about a mile from the nearest BT exchange, which sounds OK I think? And bt.com's postcode speed checker claims 5.5Mb max. OTOH, I might just try and get through to VM retentions and try and blag a price reduction on my current service, and to hell with Sky 1! I went to Sky from Virgin media, I have Sky+ and Sky Broadband Via Connect (Currently £5 a month).. I get full 8mb here, i`m nowhere near the exchange (about 1/4 mile away) and got to say it was the best move I made, I was paying VM £37.50 a month for 20mb (when it hit 20mb). Sky tv is superior to Cable, the Tv guide, the recording facility etc.. I`ve never looked back. -- Sign upto Plus.net? You must be mad!!!! |

I'm now thinking of changing this, driven by (a) a feeling that I'm paying too much overall and (b) family pressure to get access to Sky 1(!) which we lost after the Sky-VM spat earlier this year. One bonus of being a VM customer is their PAYT rate phone deal of 300 mins and 300 text for 10 quid a month http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html...bileoffer.html Steve Terry |
