awesome deal with comcast

Check out this HD deal with comcast.

I ordered Limited Basic for $12.95 (channels 2-30)
Then I added an HD STB for $5.00 /mo

The STB unscrambles up the 'expanded basic' channels although I am still
only paying for the 'limited basic' so now I have channels 2-80

Plus, of course, the HD STB opens up the ESPN, CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX and PBS HD
channels.

Also, the STB gets the music channels, and PPV channels.

All for $17.95.

Not to mention they are doubling the cable modem speed next month to
8Mb/sec!

I'm not sure if it's "an awesome deal" or just that "Comcast is dumb".
My money's on the latter. Milk it.

Do you have a link for this, Ben?

I get 4mbits/sec, I thought *that* was awesome.

No, but that is what the comcast installer told me today.

They did up the download rate. It was announced on the Comcast bill, of all
things. Unplug the cable modem power for a while and plug back in. It will
reset to the new download rate.

Don't worry, they will likely realize soon enough that they need to
put a filter on the line. The "expanded basic" channels aren't
scrambled; you could pick them up with any cable-ready TV tuner. For
non-expanded basic subscribers they put a filter on your line which
blocks out these channels. I had all of the expanded basic channels
for 2 days before they put in the filter...

I'm surprised that you don't have to pay $5/mo for digital classic to
get ESPN-HD, but this requirement seems to vary from area to area.

We get all those channels except Fox, which isn't broadcasting any HDTV
yet, plus HBO and Showtime HDTV.

For about $20 and change.
