How can a TV know that an image is coming from a computer, not a comsumer set-top box?
Page 4 of the User's manual for the 2600 card you provided the link to
clearly indicate that the extra 4 pins of the DVI-I output connector are used to provide an analog VGA(Dsub) output with a dongle that comes with the card. http://america.giga-byte.com/FileLis...x26p512h_e.pdf "D" wrote in message ... I'd assume "HDMI ready" means something else is needed and not presently supported. DVI is not HDMI and has no pins for sound.. DVI can carry HDCP encrypted content, but not all implementations of DVI have the decoders. steveo True, but it doesn't carry audio. I asked not about DVI standard, but about custom implementation of DVI output on Radeon HD cards. |

I noticed from page 4 of the link that both DVI-I ports on the card support
a VGA dongle so certainly no audio is being provided over the 4 non DVI ports. I also noticed that the card comes with what appears to be a standard DVI to HDMI adapter which like standard DVI-HDMI cables just map the digital video pins in the DVI connector to the corresponding pins in a HDMI connector since the DVI digital protocol is a subset of HDMI video protocol. I also noticed that no where in the user's manual is there any mention of the video card also supporting any audio. The card is not like some of the new ATI 2xxx chip cards that have a real HDMI connector on them which do support HDMI digital audio. "JW" wrote in message ...
