Horizontal Line across middle of screen
 

I bought a Panasonic 50" Plasma HDTV 5 weeks ago and all of a sudden a
black horizontal line appeared across the middle of the screen!!!

I left it unplugged for awhile, but it's still there.

Any ideas as to why this happened and what can be done to fix it?

Make sure that the line appears on all inputs (TV, DVD, etc) to rule out a
problem with the source (such as a cable box, etc). If it is still there for
all sources, then call Panasonic for warranty service (check their website
for more info).

Some retailers may be willing to exchange it even though they have a 30 day
return policy (after which the manufacturer warranty takes over). I was able
to exchange an LCD monitor at Circuit City after it went bad 5 weeks after
purchase date (their official policy is 30 days)..

May be a problem in the drive electronics to the panel or, more probable,
actual failure within the panel itself. Need to have it diagnosed first and
then contact Panasonic regarding warrenty on their panel.
