I note that BT have started charging for services that I used to get
free - such as £3 for voicemail 1571. This is presumably as I use Sky Talk and so no calls are paid via BT. Anybody else getting these extra charges? (I guess it's in their T&C,but it's easier to ask around that dig through them). |

BT website still lists 1571 as a free feature. 1571 enhanced services (personal message/message alert) are premium @ £1.50pm each. PeeGee -- The reply address is a spam trap. BT website still lists 1571 as a free feature. Well, along with the following text, which is not "small print" but the same size: "Customers who do not make chargeable or inclusive calls with BT will be charged for BT Answer 1571 standard service. Customers who are billed monthly must make at least two chargeable calls with BT in that month or BT will charge (incl. VAT) £1.00 a month for the standard BT Answer 1571 service. Customers who are billed quarterly must make at least six chargeable calls with BT within that quarter or BT will charged (incl. VAT) £3.00 a quarter." That's the problem with web sites - it is listed as a free feature, but if you then go to "more information" (which also says it's free), then select "BT Answer 1571" you get additional information which says the above (in smaller text) followed by "free" in red text. That makes it the same arrangement as the "free" caller display with "Privacy at Home". When the price changed this information was sent to every BT customer: it was printed on the bills. I dispute that, I have the paperless option and did not receive an e-mail :-( I've not noticed the change as have two "backup" ISPs (with e-mail addresses I haven't got round to replacing) that I access via BT at 30 day intervals. With the 6p setup fee, that may have to change, though. PeeGee -- The reply address is a spam trap. All mail is reported as spam. The 1571 change was printed in big letters on the last page of the bill (it's on my March 2007 bill), so if you didn't read your own bills then, er... .... it's probably because you are on the paperless option. Thanks all. Yes, I do use paperless billing and had nothing informing
me of the change. Next obvious question: if I'm using Sky Talk how can I make 2 calls through BT ? Prefix the call with 1280 which over-rides the "carrier preselect" used by Sky Talk. PeeGee -- The reply address is a spam trap. All mail is reported as spam. However, I moved from the prefix system to CPS as you do not get the free evening/weekend calls you get with the Freetime CPS version. PeeGee -- The reply address is a spam trap. One thing I forgot to mention, calls to 0844/0845 are the same on BT and Sky Talk, as are daytime calls to geographic numbers (assuming you are on "Freetime"). So it need not cost any more to make two BT calls per month :-) PeeGee -- The reply address is a spam trap. All mail is reported as spam.
