Has anyone any experience of the little DTT receivers built into a scart
plug? Make, model, problems, good points?

All info gratefully received. I have to make a large purchase and I don't
want to drop a bollock.

I haven't actually tried one yet but had my eye on them for when I
move next year and am out of cable's reach.
This one seems like the best of the bunch from the reviews I've read
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Freecom-DVB-...sbs_ce_title_1
Better than the Bush equivalents anyway.

Can't offer any direct experience, but surely if it's built into a SCART
plug it will have to go at the back of the TV, and won't this impede the
working of the remote control?

I tried a Bush one, but found it was very slow to change channels and
text pages. Also it did not have an aerial-out socket, so you can't
add a video recorder. It has a lead with an infra red receiver pod
that you place within sight of the remote control.

I tried a Bush one, it died after 3 weeks, took it back fand exchanged
it for a conventional model.

If you want a cheap, small, simple Freeview receiver, check out
www.tvonics.com and have a look at the MDR-200. I have one of these as a
tuner for one of my recorders because it includes a timer for making
recordings (though they don't mention this on the web page), RGB SCART
output, and a very low power consumption. The remote control isn't
particularly chunky, but I've seen worse. Some of the big Tesco stores
have them if you want a close look at one, but it's cheaper to order
direct from Tvonics.

I would steer clear. Gravity usually wins against ordinary SCART cables
let alone those ungainly things.
I wasn't impressed when I installed one for an old biddy some
time ago, If I had to install it on her telly I wouldn't have been able
to without some sort of SCART extension, because the socket was
recessed in the back of the set and the B-L aerial plug fouled it.
Fortunately she had a VHS so I installed it on there.
I think it was a Bush.
I think there was an article in Television about a common fault on
them, maybe just early production units.

Not the sort of kit I would associate with you Bill, what's the project?

Someone in the firm I'm subcontracting to has had the idea and has asked me
to check it out. My instincts are against it but I try to keep an open mind.

They have the remote sensor on a bit of wire, so you can place it in
view.

If you keep an open mind, you brains might fall out :-)
