As rab c nesbitt would say ..... its awe pish.

My son in law had cable and has since moved to larger house in the same
area, he can see the green box about 100 yards away from his house, but
apparently at the moment they don't intend extending it any further.. what a
way to run a company!

I remember a tv advert for a mobile phone company that got slated a
couple of years ago because they said they had 90% uk coverage .

But , And heres the good part , Coverage actually means 90% of the
population and not 90% of the uk in terms of area mass .

It wouldnt surprise me if only cableing a couple of streets in a large
town would mean it can then be classed as a cabled area .

How do they plan to do this exactly?

IPTV via ADSL. Maybe. Just a wild guess ;-)

"Where do you live?
Virgin TV is only available by cable right now, so you'll need to check
you live in a cable area. The good news is we're bringing Virgin TV to
our customers in non-cable areas very soon. Check your postcode now."

Typing in my MK postcode I get:

It looks like your home is in our analogue area. This means you can get
some of our Virgin Media cable services including superfast broadband,
over 35 TV channels and great value deals on your mobile or home phone.
What next?
To find out which Virgin Media services will be available in your area,
all you need to do is give our Customer Care team a call

It's no secret.

This page
http://www.virgin.net/allyours/digit...buspart=search
clearly states

"Virgin Free TV uses the Freeview service which is available to about 3 out
of 4 of UK homes. "

"The service is free sir, we just require one initial payment of 194.99
then 36 recurring monthly payments of 49.95"

Fonejacker got it right.

"Virgin Free TV"

There are no Virgins on this channel, all participants have been around
the block once or twice. Some are even begging for it.

Delivery of smut guaranteed :-)

Christ, they still DO analogue cable? I know they're broadcasting the
analogue channels simulcast style, but surely they've upgraded just
about everywhere to digital cable, right?

MK is an odd one, I live near there when I'm not in Brum at uni (MK18,
not in MK though!). Some of my mates have that odd MK-only system where
a selection of channels are rebroadcast on a closed-loop UHF system
which terminates at aerial points in their houses, letting them tune to
some channels on a UHF carrier without Sky. Kinda handy, but shame it's
so proprietary (and probably far too expensive for what it offers).
