Photonic Crystals - a New Display Technology
 

It's always fun to dream about the future. In several labs around the
world, scientists and engineers are working on photonic crystals. (Photonic
crystals are to light what semiconductors are to electrons.)

One of the products made possible by photonic crystals are bright, colorful
displays which reflect ambient light with very high efficiency. One company
has even figured out how to change the displayed image at video rates.
