Lost channels on PC stick
Hi
I just received this: http://www.riverstreams.co.uk/index....d&productId=16 and it is excellent except that it will not detect BBC4 on any sweep on a mains aerial. It detects 66 channels in total in the West Oxford area. On this same aerial on a Freeview box, I can detect BBC4. Any help welcomed Thanks Jon PS What frequency is BBC4 broadcast on, please, as there is a manual scan option. |

Here (Darvel) it's on the same frequency as the BBC radio channels. I expect that'll be the same everywhere. Peter |

The confusion is around the name of the BlazeVideo software bundled with the product that has the name "HDTV player" as it can be used with HDTV hardware (which this device is not) http://www.blazevideo.com/hdtv-player -- Adrian C |

I tried opening up Cbeebies (which has scanned successfully) in the evening but got a blank, so rescanned and BBC4 appeared. Another point though. The Blaze s/w allows for teletext "if your provider delivers this service". However if I go on to a dedicated teletext site...holidays...cars etc, I just get the sound and all the teletext options are greyed out. Please could someone explain if I should be able to receive teletext on the digital channels on this device, and how to do this? Many thanks Jon PS Great little device working on under spec laptop with USB1 !!!! |

That's because teletext in the U.K. DTT system is delivered as MHEG, which is unique to the U.K., and these sticks (and PC cards) are made for the general DTT system which delivers teletext the old fashioned way, as part of the video signal. André Coutanche Thanks again. Finally, as an IT Manager I can offer some advice. I was running this stick on a Tosh 2100 with 1.1 USB ports. I thought I would try using a USB2 PCMCIA adaptor to cut out a few of the jerks and lock-ups. DON'T!!!! After hours of pratting about with no success, I find that some/most digital TV sticks will not run on these USB2 adaptors especially if they have an NEC chipset. What's worse, is having installed the USB2 card, the TV stick then failed to work on the original USB1.1 ports.....and I thought the unit had died. Basically, I had to uninstall the USB2 card drivers, then the original USB 1.1 drivers (and re-install) and then re-install the TV stick drivers and software before the unit started working again. So don't use an NEC chip USB2 PCMCIA card to try and work some/all digital USB TV sticks!! Hope this saves some hours of frustration. Regards Jon |

Wouldnt a good IT manager just create a resore point before experimenting with different drivers ? .- Hide quoted text - Maybe....but this one is lying on his back for 8 weeks after major surgery typing on a laptop on his stomach and trying to think through the haze of extra strong painkillers!! 8) Jon Actually I tend to keep current back-ups of all data.....make sure I have driver disks readily available for all hardware....have the OS on a separate partition.....and then quickly re-install the OS after any major problems/failures.I turn 'restore points' off as in the long run in XP, much quicker to install the OS than pratting about with 'restores', especially as they often bring back unwanted nasties with them.............pass the morphine...... |
