HDCP authentication failed error
I have HDTV Sony XBR4 which I connected to Motorola cable box DCT 6200 using DVI to HDMI cable from monoprice.com. I did so because this cable box does not have HDMI output. But the system works about 10-15 minutes and video signal terminated with error message:
"HDCP authentication failed. Use component connection". So I changed connection to component, which is analog and it works fine. But I pay SHAW for digital content and I'd like to see "Full Digital HDTV". All my calls to customer support and technician visits gave me nothing. They tried to change cable box, HDMI to DVI cable - same problem. If anybody knows how to solve the problem, please reply. Thanks, GB |

If the box still only has DVI instead of HDMI, it is probably too old to have a correctly implemented HDCP. If they tried to change cable box, was the replacement a new model with genuine HDMI? Just how much is your component analog content degraded? The advantage of digital is mostly gained over the long distance wires of the cable company where is it most subject to degradation. Hell, cable companies have a hard time even keeping digital working consistently. -- |---------------------------------------/----------------------------------| | Phil Howard KA9WGN (ka9wgn.ham.org) / Do not send to the address below | | first name lower case at ipal.net / | |------------------------------------/-------------------------------------| |

Check with SONY to determine if there may be a software upgrade available
for your set. Since it is a generic XBR4 (no model number posted) you will need to give the SONY representative all the pertianent information when calling them. Cheers. wrote in message ...
