His is Scientific Atlanta, which is what I have from Comcast NJ. If you are presently hooked up via component (5 wires), there will only be a slight, or no, improvement with HDMI. They probably did not supply you with the manuals, but you can download them from the Comcast.com (NOT Comcast.net) or Motorola.com web site. Tam |

Typo or are you including stereo audio cables? For 5.1 sound, you want to use a digital audio - optical or co-axial - cable. Bernie, are you connected using component cables which has 3 cables with Red, Green, Blue color band codes? If you are not and are not using DVI or HMDI digital connectors, then you are not getting HD. S-Video and composite (single yellow cable) do not carry HD video signals. You have to check with Comcast in your specific franchise area to see if they offer a box with HDMI ports on it. Comcast is a very big cable company which has different equipment and HD channel line-ups in different locations depending in large part on where the local franchise is in the upgrade cycle. If you are not getting a good HD picture, I suspect you are not getting HD or the HD channels. However you don't need HDMI, in general component provides just about as good as a picture quality as HDMI. Some people get a better picture with component, sometimes better with HDMI, and much of the time, it is a wash. The advantage to component is no copy protection flag handshake which is sometimes a problem with particular TV and STB combinations. Also double check the settings for the cable box - it should be set to output 1080i, 720p, or ideally, native for the HD channels. If you have a 5.1 sound system, look into connecting the digital audio output from the Comcast box to the receiver. Alan F |

Yes, they do offer a box with HDMI....but beware, the one I got after being
on a waiting list for more than 6 months didn't even have the HDMI turned on...now I have to wait for one that does....how annoying!!! "BV" wrote in message ps.com... ps.com... Comcast in eastern Massachusetts ... offer a box with HDMI? My daughter (in Brighton) has a DVR with HDMI. She had to wait a week or so before one was available. |

I've just been using the regular cable to connect to my JVC 32 " LCD .
I did get cables with my box of five connections -two black with silver and red stripes and three white with red , blue and green stripes. Frankly I don't know what to connect . My OTA signals are great of both Boston and Providence stations . Bernie |

The video jacks might be labeled Y,Pb, and Pr. The group of 3 is for video, the group of 2 is for audio. Tam |

Tam Bernie, look for Red, Green, Blue RCA phono jack color coded connectors labeled component on the output of the Comcast box and as a input on the TV. Use the two black lines with silver (? usually white?) and red stripes to connect the left/right stereo output to the TV. Check the manuals. If you have a audio receiver with 5.1 capability, look into running a digital audio line from the Comcast box to the audio receiver. But first get the picture hookup working correctly. Digital and HD require different cabling than "regular" cable which could mean RF output (usually NTSC analog only on channel 3), composite, or S-Video. These are all obsolete connections for digital system and none of these will get you HD. Alan F |

Walked into the Comcast office here in St. Clair Shores, MI with my old DVR,
walked out with a new HDMI DVR. That fast. HDMI to HDTV and optical to AV Receiver. Great pic, great sound. "BV" wrote in message ps.com...
