That info is wrong, as E4 and More4 are currently part of Sky's Variety Mix.
But it does look like all will be un-encrypted and on the 'BBC' Freesat system next year. "Stuart B" wrote in message ... I've an idea, move to Astra 1 satellite and don't pay $ky a penny for any EPG listing. Millions of £££ saved. Sounds like they'll be moving to the narrow beam on astra-2D when they move from FreesatFromSky to Freesat they *WON'T* need to pay for a murdoch EPG listing (but presumably they will choose to do so so they don't disappear from Murdoch boxes when they change from FTV to FTA) |

It is down to the original E4 deal contract with Sky which got them out if EPG fees. It always ended March 2008, so to say this is old "news" understates it. |

they would let Film 4 go clear unless it was a toe in the water ... On Sun, 21 Oct 2007 20:35:36 GMT, "Brian W" wrote: Dunno if anyone's seen this yet. Good news indeed http://blog.wotsat.com/page/whatsat?...o_join_freesat |

... Is Astra2D a different satellite? It depends what you mean by different. It is one of the group of Astra 2 satellites all in the same orbital position that are used for UK satellite TV including Sky. It is the same individual satellite in that position that is used for the FTA broadcasts of the BBC channels, and has a fairly narrow footprint in an attempt to restrict coverage to the UK. See http://www.astra.lu/consumer/uk/how-...ints/index.php. Channel 4 is currently on Astra 2A which has a wider footprint. |

Is that not what the BBC initiated Freesat system is all about? A "red-button" digibox for those that want/need it, or if you want all channels FTA with any FTA receiver. I've been saying this for years Tony, especially with Liddle's selling receivers for around £39.00.. cheaper than an aerial! Technically a DVB-S FTA receiver is not much different to the DVB-T box sold in supermarkets for less than £20. So with sufficient demand that price should also be possible for FTA DVB-S receivers. On the continent in France or Germany you can get DVB-S boxes for as little as 30 Euros. Andreas |
