Series 3 300GB/32GB HD equivalent # of GB's?
I can't decide on a Series 2 or 3 Tivo, perhaps I can buy the series 2 model
and take the savings (versus Series 3) and instead buy a larger internal HDD, thereby getting more HD recording time. But, I do not know how many GB's the Series 3 or Series 2 HDD's are. Can't find the GB info on Tivo.com or elsewhere. Any info would be appreciated! |

I can't decide on a Series 2 or 3 Tivo, I would expect that your first decision would be: HDTV or no HDTV. Series 2 does not do HD. Series 3 and HD TiVo do HD, the latter being a lot less expensive. (Also 40hr=40GB, 140Hr=120GB) TiVo HD DVR = up to 180 hours in SD = 160 GB SATA. Series3 HD DVR = up to 300 hours in SD = 250 GB SATA. -Joe |

There is a $200 rebate and you can buy them for under $600, bringing it down to under $400. The TiVo HD's MSRP is $299 - but I've seen it as low as $267 recently. Personally, right now I'd probably go with the Series3 for the larger drive, nicer remote, and nicer physical design of the unit. But if you go with the TiVo HD, I recommend picking up the 'Glo' remote separately as it is really a nicer TiVo remote. (Unless you're going to use a universal like a Harmony remote.) Series2 DT DVR = up to 80 hours = 80 GB. (Also 40hr=40GB, 140Hr=120GB) This is not correct. The Series2 had 40hr (40GB), 80hr (80GB) and 140hr (120GB) The Series2DT has 80hr (80GB) and 180hr (160GB) - but the 180-hour seems to have been phased out and is harder to find now. TiVo HD DVR = up to 180 hours in SD = 160 GB SATA. Also given as up to 20 hours of HD. Series3 HD DVR = up to 300 hours in SD = 250 GB SATA. Also given as up to 32 hours of HD. Note that both the TiVo HD and the Series3 have eSATA ports for additional storage. These aren't officially activated yet, though that is supposed to happen later this year. For now there are unofficial ways to attach external storage to both models. -MZ -- megazone-at-megazone.org http://www.MegaZone.org/ Gweep, Geek, Human, me. http://www.TiVoLovers.com/ http://www.Eyrie-Productions.com/ -- Hail Eris "A little nonsense now and then, is relished by the wisest men" 508-852-2171 |
