TiVo Remote Switch repair
I have a TiVo remote where the 1/2 switch no longer works. (Because of the
nature of the switch versus the way most remote buttons work, I suspect that it is the most common failure.) Has anyone been successful in taking a TiVo remote apart and cleaning/repairing it? The cost of a new remote is around $30 and I suspect any professional repair would cost as much. I've taken other remotes apart and cleaned them, but I'm looking for any user experience. And because I now have 3 TiVos, I wonder if there is any TiVo compatible remote that can be programmed for more than 2 TiVos? Keith E. Moe |

[...] I don't know if this answers your question, but I have a Harmony 880 remote, and have it programmed to work with 2 DirecTivos (an SD DirecTivo and a HR10-250 HD DirecTivo). In addition to that, it also controls my TV, a DVD player, and my HR20 DirecTV HD DVR. so although I don't have it programmed for 3 Tivos, I'm very sure that it can be. I bet the harmony remote costs more than $30 too... (: -- 50. My main computers will have their own special operating system that will be completely incompatible with standard IBM and Macintosh powerbooks. --Peter Anspach's list of things to do as an Evil Overlord |

I bet the harmony remote costs more than $30 too... (: indeed. But there is some advantage to being able to use only one remote for everything. -- Charlie Hoffpauir http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~charlieh/ |

The switch works on THREE of them. The switch is broken on the oldest of them. I keep two remotes in two different viewing locations in the room, so I'd like all of them to work. With three TiVos, I have them covered even with the one broken switch, but I expect that if one side it dead on one remote, the other side of the switch might also go dead. The Harmony remote looks wonderful, but spending up to $250 (less on Amazon) on ONE remote is not exactly what I had in mind.... Keith E. Moe |

True, but the OP wanted open and attempt to repair a peanut rather than spend $30 on a replacement for a broken one.... That says "money is an issue" to me. -- _ o |/) |
