CT100 shielding

As it stands, I plan on running my cable in the same channels as mains power. Am I likely to have problems if I do this *without* additional shielding on good quality CT100 (I'm using Bill W's site as a reference) ? If it makes any difference, I also use Solwise Homeplugs for some of my home networking - don't know if that's likely to increase the risk of interference. Low voltage and mains in the same channels! Tsk against IEE reg's (hence building reg's) IIRC. In the same piece of conduit or trunking is wrong. But in the same channel cut in the wall, I don't think so. and you can have ELV in the same trunking as mains if the wiring is insulated to the higher voltage standard. Actually I would be tempted to follow the 16th ed. rules and keep them 6inches apart. You might also find that your homes plug may cause trouble, although without trying it you won't know! When he says 'channel' after mentioning plaster I assume that he means that he will take a chase down the wall wide enough for the two cables. If so, whether he uses two narrow pieces of plastic capping or one wide one is another matter, although I expect there's some reg or other about it. My answer was based purely on EMC considerations. That *is* the case; my original question was badly phrased and information poor, so thanks to the posters who teased out the salient facts :-) The mains cables are already in place and capped with *metal* conduit - I'll likely just chase another slot into the wall a few inches or so away. I may also run CT100 *and* CAT5e at the same time, in the same conduit if these will coexist happily enough? |
CT100 shielding
Please be aware that it is reported that "Ethernet over mains" systems can
cause great problems to short-wave etc reception. If you do not intend to listen to sw then no problem, although it might upset you next door neighbours. As you are doing a rebuild why not just install CAT5 cabling. I would also recommend segregation of data/tv cables from mains on safety grounds. Just imagine if you were to put a nail through the lot. Paul T "Bill Wright" wrote in message ... "seani" wrote in message ups.com... Had plenty with cheap cable though. Bill |
