What makes the BBC think that it is going to get back the confidence of its
viewers when the producers of Blue Peter have been deceiving their audience
for decades before Phone-ingate and Pussygate, or do they think we have
forgotten Petragate?

Why wasn't the first Blue Peter producer sacked when she replaced the
original Petra with another puppy from the same breed when the original
Petra died only days after she first appeared on the show without telling
the viewers who were kept in the dark until both Petra's were dead? The even
went so far as erecting a bronze stature of the fake Petra in the Blue Peter
garden!

And how is bringing on another kitten on the show and calling it Cookie
going to satisfy the people who voted for that name to be given to the cat
now called Socks. It's yet another deception. It's the producers who decided
to call the current cat Socks and them again who have decided on the name of
the new cat Cookie, not the viewers. Cookie isn't the viewers name choice
for the new cat, it's their choice for the current cat. Why are the viewers
not being given the chance to name the new cat without intervention from the
producer yet again? How about they sack this producer too.

Well apparently its some form of slang.
TOSS YOUR COOKIES
Toss your cookies is American slang for to vomit

TOUGH COOKIE
Tough cookie is slang for a strong unyielding person.

http://www.probertencyclopaedia.com/browse/ZT.HTM

Well cats vomit and cats are unyielding so I don't see the problem. But as I
said before Blue Peter has a long record of deceiving its viewers since
Petragate in the time of Biddie Baxter.

In addition to other people's suggestions, if "cookie" is
said with a Northern English pronunciation it sounds like
"kooky" meaning "Cranky, crazy, eccentric".

When my younger daughter was about 9 she named her kitten Blackie (because
he was black and she was an unimaginitive child). After the children had
been discussing their pets a young Brownie leader took me on one side and
suggested that the name was 'inappropriate' because their was a negro child
in the group. I'm afraid I swore at her.

At the time it did not occur to me to say anything about the the name
'Brownies' .

From what I've read (in The Independent, I think) it wasn't ever Cookie.
It was voted as Pussie. Cookie is just a euphemistic substitute.

In which case they're still lying about it.

Mind you, there are far worse things going on. I have it from good
sources that in reality there's no such place as Walford and that many
of the people who live there are actually being portrayed by
semi-professional actors.

God knows where this will end. If he exists. It's no good asking Songs

Ah hah! So I'm the only one who knows the proper answer to that.

It's like this: the name "Cookie" when given to a cat is short for "Cooking
Fat", and I'm sure with a little imagination you'll be able to work out:

a/ why it's such a popular name for cats
b/ why Auntie wasn't so keen on it for the Blue Peter cat!

I remember my dad relating a tale about a cat that was so named
(Cooking Fat) some 40 odd years ago. The name came about, apparently, on
account it was in the habit of getting underfoot causing the victim to
exclaim "Cooking Fat!" (or words to that effect :-).

It was used by Sid James and Hattie Jacques in Carry On Loving (1970):

HJ: calling the cat by name
SJ: "Cooking fat?"
HJ: "Yes, that's his name"
SJ: "Funny name for a cat"
HJ: "Well, that's what it sounded like"
SJ: one of those looks!

Try the urban dictionary.

Sounds like an Americanism - hardly in common usage over here.

Someone did suggest there was some 'odd' voting patterns for cookie so
they thought there was some vote-rigging going on.
But that sounds like a poor excure rather than a good reason.
