I remember my dad relating a tale about a cat that was so named
(Cooking Fat) some 40 odd years ago. The name came about, apparently, on
account it was in the habit of getting underfoot causing the victim to
exclaim "Cooking Fat!" (or words to that effect :-).

It was used by Sid James and Hattie Jacques in Carry On Loving (1970):

HJ: calling the cat by name
SJ: "Cooking fat?"
HJ: "Yes, that's his name"
SJ: "Funny name for a cat"
HJ: "Well, that's what it sounded like"
SJ: one of those looks!

decided against it. Sounds like some students multiple-voting to have
a laugh to me. So if "Pussy" was the top answer the BBC acted
correctly in rejecting it.

Sounds like an Americanism - hardly in common usage over here.

Someone did suggest there was some 'odd' voting patterns for cookie so
they thought there was some vote-rigging going on.
But that sounds like a poor excure rather than a good reason.

I though that was a bit daft - until I got to the end where it accuses
