Aren't those Sky dishes the most flimsy bit of cack out?. Do they have
someone press them out of recycled tin cans?...

To just about any bloody thing!, every bit of it was loose and flopping
around the adjustments were **** poor and flimsy every time you adjusted
the poxy thing and tightened it up it would wander off the desired
point.

Worse made and designed Heap of cack in consumer use!...

If you had, you'd have noticed the large video backdrop.

but I don't think talking heads in a news studio
are really testing of MPEG-2!

It entirely depends on the amount of movement and detail but mainly
the compression. I've seen some grotty pictures from simple fairly
static studio shots (e.g. Bid TV) and grotty pictures from way over
the top shots (e.g. Eurovision Dance 'competition' last night).

in to capturing high quality football video vs the wrecked grass and
cut-out footballers the punters see at home. The shrug of the
shoulders and the sigh for a reply said it all.

That's one way to force progress,
unless you are willing to surrender all policy making to bean counters.

...you've been away too long, Pete. Things have hugely changed and all
policy seems to be in the hands of bean counters with not enough beans
to go round.

As evidence, they seem to have now come to the interesting conclusion
that (English) BBC Resources is a 'non-core' operation to be sold off
although it is still seen as 'vital' to the BBC. To me, it looks like
they're skint (as usual) and are selling off the family silver to pay
for services - a trick they've been practicing since selling the
transmitters.

And don't forget Siemens have put in a bid to take over English Regions
Engineering, which must surely be considered as vital? :-(

Wasn't that knocked back though? I know they have Engineering in
Scotland but am unaware of the exact position elsewhere.
