Failry certain I've got an IBM Lenovo with an ATI card running dual
monitors on the DVI port with different resolutions at home.

Something to check later.

Its easy to have them at different resolutions if you want them to
display independent content, for example when using more than one screen
for a big desktop. It gets harder if you want the same image on both.

Many of the older cards that had a TV out capability would scale (or
probably more accurately decimate) the output to make whatever main
resolution was selected viewable (although not necessarily readable) on
a secondary TV.

The more modern cards with two completely independent screen outputs
("dual head") like your (and my) ATI cards don't have any default
options to allow one screen to duplicate the other as far as I am aware.
