Is there such thing as OTA HDTV without dropouts?
By the way..... My signal strength still remains at about 75%.
However, it's consistent. It didn't matter if the antenna was in the attic or the roof, as long as it was aimed at the antenna farm. NO DROPOUTS....AWESOME!!!! I never changed my wires to the R6, since changing it would of involved a lot of work. I would of done that next if this route didn't work. THANKS EVERYBODY. Stan |

GG,
I never tried the attenuators either. I figured I wanted to work with what I had first. I did try an indoor antenna that was made for UHF only. It's one of those double bow tie stuff they sell at Radio Shack a long time ago. That only made my reception worst. thanks for your advice, stan As an inexpensive experiment, you could try a couple different value attenuators say 3, 6 or 10 dB. If the amplifier made it worse, you may be simply overloading the front end(s). At 12 miles you shouldn't need any large antenna unless you have a difficult multipath issue that a more directional could help though it would have more signal output as well. Attenuators are excellent for that scenario. We're in LA and use a Winegard SquareShooter (little over 4 dB gain, 13 dB front-back) 35 miles out, line of sight, signal split 4 ways. Dropouts are so rare I don't remember the last one. GG |

ups.com... FINALLY COMPLETED!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went up in the attic and looked at the position of the antenna. The antenna was actually aimed West (it should be aimed North at Mt Wilson's antenna farm.) I aimed the antenna North and checked the reception. The HDTV reception remained at about 75%....however this time it was consistent. There were no dropouts. Wow! I then checked my analog station and it actually made some channels worst. Since I have ReplayTV, I still need analog TV. I then moved the antenna out of the attic and on the roof. On my roof, I can actually see the antenna farm where the TV stations antenna are. I never noticed the Antenna Farm until Alan F mention it on the thread. I pointed my antenna directly at the Antenna Farm. Now both my analog TV works fine, and my Digitial HDTV works perfect. I was watching TV for about an hours and there wasn't even one drop- out. AWESOME!!!! Glad you got it to work! Now, see how long it's going to be before you start to really dislike analog and love only the HDTV reception. :-) |

Now, see how long it's going to be before you start to really dislike analog and love only the HDTV reception. :-) Yeap.......new problem. I don't think I can watch analog TV through my Tivo/ReplayTV anymore. Now I need to upgrade to a HDTV PVR. I think I will start a new thread for more information. Stan |

While high def IS digital, digital is not hi def. Properly spoken, your statement would be "start really to dislike analog and love only the digital reception". When analog goes away, all OTA will be digital--but of that digital, some will be standard def ("low resolution") and some will be hi def ("high resolution"). More likely that he meant SD, when stating "analog." I find it, HD, to be a deciding factor when choosing among insignificant offerings. If only there were an HD candidate to be seen ;-0) |

Stan I still use my replaytv and have turned the sharpness and color saturation down on the component input that the replay feeds. It helps with the watchability factor somewhat. It's grainy compared to HD, but I've gotten used to it in the last year. I also put in a 250gb hard drive and only record on medium quality. Standard or low (I forget what it's called) was just too grainy. For my HD recording I use a moto 6412 cable box and I'm happy with it but HD recording takes up space fast. That's why I still use the replaytv for SD recording. alien |
