hd sides are compressed
I have my OTA hooked up to my TV monitor. I am in NYC, When I put chnl
2 cbs, its just the normal view , I remote to the next chnl and CBS 2-1 hd appears. The picture is great...but the heads of the actor seem compressed...there are blank sides on this 22'' monitor. Is this normal for hd? I was told that hd is compressed if your getting hd from cable company, so one is not getting the full impact of HD...so they said you would get true hd if your in a neighborhood that is close to the transmitter with an ota antenna...it doesn't get compressed as its being transmitted. |

You've got something set wrong. Screen format/aspect ratio, or called something like that on your un-named 22" (16:9? 4:3?) TV/monitor. -- Want the ultimate in free OTA SD/HDTV Recorder? http://mythtv.org http://mysettopbox.tv/knoppmyth.html Usenet alt.video.ptv.mythtv My server http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/cpu.php HD Tivo S3 compared http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/mythtivo.htm |

If it's OTA, then your remote for the TV has a FORMAT setting somewhere (usually on a prominent button, but not always). Cycle through the options like (4:3, 16:9, zoom, crop, letterbox, side bar, barn door, etc.) to find the one that makes the picture fit the screen without distortion. The odd thing is, if it is really an HD channel and you have a wide-screen TV, it will normally detect that and always show the correct format - the options are usually for fitting a normal channel's image in the wide-screen TV. But if you are passing the signal through a standard VCR/DVR, that could be the cause. You may need to adjust the options on one of both devices to get the correct results. Check the screen format sections of your manuals. |
