Hook up options?
My DLP set has one HDMI input.
It is also cable card capable. My DVD player is an upscaling model 1) should I use the cable card instead of a cable box? I know I would lose VOD and the On Screen guide, but would by using a cable card directly would it improve the quality of my HD channels? 2) If I don't use a cable card, the correct way to hook up my TV would be like this, right? - Upscaling DVD player HDMI cable to TV. Digital audio to DTS receiver/amplifier - Cable Box component cables to TV, RCA audio cables to DTS receiver/amplifier. The reason I ask is this, DVD players upscaling feature only works with HDMI output , correct ? |

The restriction on up converting to component is a lawyer rather than a
engineering one. Copy protected DVDs will not be up converted on the component outputs, HDMI outputs will be up converted PROVIDED the TV supports the rights management scheme. The DVD player will ask the TV if it supports the copy protect features, if the correct reply is received then it will up convert otherwise it will not. Many older 'HD' TVs do not support the protocol. In your TV manual the acronym to look for is HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection). Michael "whosbest54" wrote in message ... I don't see how it would make a difference as far as picture quality that would be significant enough to notice. 2) If I don't use a cable card, the correct way to hook up my TV would be like this, right? - Upscaling DVD player HDMI cable to TV. If it does, why not use it provided your receiver has more than one digital in. The reason I ask is this, DVD players upscaling feature only works with HDMI output , correct ? They should provide progressive scan to the component, so the picture quality may be very slightly better with the HDMI. The bigger the set, the more noticeable the improvement, I suppose. Try it both ways and see if you notice. whosbest54 -- The flamewars are over...if you want it. Maybe my understanding is wrong but a cable card only authorizes your TV for viewing encrypted channels from your cable provider. It doesn't change the quality of the content and it still requires a tuner to be in your configuration. 2) If I don't use a cable card, the correct way to hook up my TV would be like this, right? - Upscaling DVD player HDMI cable to TV.
