I think the JY Prog was a generational thing. Anyone under 40 hated it!

In this "Radio 2 is the new Radio 1" world JY just wouldn't fit in. In fact
I don't think he fitted in for the 5 years before he was fired, in the same
way that "Bunty" is the current weak link in the line up!

in fairness, jimmy young was off ill for months at a time towards the end of
his run - he was away more than he was there!
