HD sound "skipping" on Comcast

The sound on my local channels HD feeds have been "skipping" for a couple
days now. The sound gets garbled for a second and then picks up properly, it
also drops out altogether and goes dead for a second or two. It's worst on
Fox but I've noticed it on other local channels HD feeds as well.

Has anybody else experienced this? Should I schedule a service call (a pain
in the butt) or is it most likely yet another problem at the Comcast head
end and not in my box? I've got the Comcast Scientific Atlanta HD-DVR box
connected via HDMI. No SD channel feeds have a sound problem.

I always have the same problem with the two weakest channels (PBS and ABC).
This problem will occur on daily basis for these two channels while less
than one per week for other channels combined.

Yesterday I only noticed it on Fox, but today I noticed it on *every* HD
channel. If I have to schedule a service call for this, and I take time off
for the technician to come, only for him to tell me it's a problem at the
head end, which is what happened last time I had a problem, I'm done with
Comcast. I've had more problems in 3 years with Comcast than anybody I know
has ever had with DirecTV and I'm paying Comcast outrageous rates.

When you say "weakest" do you mean the RF level Comcast is providing to
you over the coax, or the RF level over the air that their headend would
potentially have trouble with (such as these stations are further away)?

I have noticed that Comcast seems to have some shoddy headend engineering.

I shall say "worst" instead of "weakest".

to determine if it is your STB or the
Comcast feed - get a coax spitter to divide
the signal Before your STB -

Yes they condone this; see:
https://www.comcast.com/MediaLibrary...ound_sound.pdf
or
http://www.comcast.com/images/ImageL...rent%20One.pdf

Put one coax lead from the splitter into your STB
and the other into your TV and tune your
tv to the cable QAM channels .. eg here
in sacramento it is 3-1 6-1 10-1 13-1 etc.

If the sound from the HD channels is still
bad then most likely their head end problem
else if ok then likely your STB is bad.

In HDMI situations, could it really be lip-sync? IIMU that this is/has been
fixed in Ver 1.3

Now that I know what market you are in, I do know that WTAE and WQED do
have specific issues. WTAE is poor over the air for an unknown reasons.
WQED is switching back to 13 for digital, so it would be financial folly
to upgrade the channel 38 transmitter to full power.

Comcast might have decided to not upgrade their antennas until things
get finalized.

I'm in Alexandria, VA (suburban DC) and for whatever reason, it seems the
issue is mostly resolved today. I've watched Fox HD and ESPN and ESPN 2 HD
tonight with only one or two sound problems. I guess it must be at the
Comcast head end. The Comcast franchise here in Northern VA seems to have an
inordinate amount of problems which is why my first assumption was that it
had to be at the head end. I've had serious issues with my HD DVR twice now,
which I was told was the same software issue at the head end that they
thought they'd fixed after the first occurrence, and then a myriad of minor
issues with it that I was always told were at the head end. They're also the
franchise that has thus far not invested too much in HD channel offerings
until their new switching technology is fully implemented to allow them to
only offer an HD channel when a viewer switches to it.

So they basically want to force everyone to use their PoS crappy STBs?
Well, there goes one of the last 2 big advantage of cable (that I don't
have to use a damned box). The only remaining advantage of cable can be
overcome with a larger dish (rain fade).
