A HDMI cable connects my satellite receiver to my HDTV.

What connections do I need to make to connect a separate DVD player to
my HDTV?

How do I switch from watching satellite broadcasts to watching DVD
movies?

The answer is 'it depends'

If your DVD player has component video outputs and audio outs, you could
use those connections and switch inputs with your tv remote.

If you want both to come via HDMI, then you would need an HDMI switch
and then use it to switch both video and audio from one to the other.
Check monoprice.com for some good pricing on those.

Or if you want the full HD experience, including better sound, you could
get a HDMI equipped AV receiver and let it do the switching for you.
Even with SD dvd players, there are sometimes more audio tracks
available than the standard Dolby Digital. Like DTS or DTS-EX/ES with
6.1 channels.

Lots of choices and you can set your head spinning doing the research.
My own head has just stopped spinning from my research. ;-)

Hi Lloyd,

Let's go with the "If your DVD player has component video outputs and
audio outs, you could use those connections and switch inputs with
your tv remote" option.

A picture of my tv remote is at:

What buttons do I push on the tv remote to switch from watching DVD
movies to watching satellite programs?

Thanks,

Gary

I don't know which button on your sat remote would work with your
particular tv. None of them work with my tv, except for power on/off.

But your actual TV remote should have a selection button of some sort on
it. Mine are marked '1' '2' '3' and then another one is 'dig in' for
digital in (hdmi in this case)
