Nothing has changed. I want a small portable TV _today_ and will buy a
decent one right now if I can find it. I don't need HD for that, but it
should be able to downconvert any HD to whatever screen size it has (such
as native 240 or 160 lines). Combining it would a portable DVD player is
a plus. I have a future interest in a larger HD TV, but that may will be
a year or so off. I have an interest in getting FTA satellite sooner.
But I would have bought the portable TV as much as 2 years ago, if it had
been available with ATSC tuner.

How about this one? It's not exactly a portable, but it should do:

I'd do it again. Just to be fair I probably will at other stores.

I take it all back. My wife accused me of having a small wiener and
a small mind and I was in a foul mood. (No, I am not a chicken
******). Sorry for taking it out on you.

What do you consider small/portable? I've seen lots of TV's with dvd
players built in with ATSC tuner from 8-24".

I don't see any evidence of that whatsoever.

Most likely neither does bob.

Not exactly portable. It won't do for the portable need. I could not find
any specs on battery capacity, external DC voltage, or weight. I suspect
it won't be very easy to carry around.

By portable I do not mean something I can pick up can move to another room
once a month or so. Instead, I mean something I can carry around day to
day, or carry to a location I want to test reception, or out to the park
or a picnic area, or camping.

Gee, if you were going to look around NEWEGG, I'd have at least expected
you to try to point out this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882254008

Close, but, unfortunately, it's NTSC-only. And what you see under it is
what is called a "TV docking station". I was unable to determine if the
TV docking station can physically attach, and run by battery, so they can
e operated together portably.

Most of these fit what I consider to be small/portable:

Has anyone, anywhere in the USA, seen any stores actually hooking up an
antenna, inside or outside, and showing to consumers just how well OTA
digital and high definition TV really works?

==========================
All I have seen is canned Sat in stores - badly adjusted at that.

If I had a store, I would sure feed an antenna signal to sets
to show people what they can get for FREE!
I bet they would sell a lot more sets.

If you go to the "high end" stores (not the big box brand name stores)
you will be able to see setups with OTA, cable, DISH Network, DirecTV

prices are higher than the big box stores, for people that need it, the
pre sales and post sales support are well worth it.

I like to pay for *some* service, but the local standalone Magnolia
wants $1450 for the same Sony that's $1250 at BestBuy, and I take it
home and plug it in either way.

And then there's the real high-end places down the street.

Magnolia will match the price IF it is the same model.

But then you wouldn't get all those kickbacks for steering customers to

Are you telling me that the kickback is greater than the profit on a set?
