NTL without NTL box?

Hi,
I am trying to connect my digital NTL feed straight into my Bravia
40w2000 TV, which has a digital tuner, with a smartcard reader. I had
hoped this would work, but then again I know virtually nothing about
digital transmissions. But as you might have guessed, I get no joy
from this setup, the tuner detecting no signal. Is it possible to
bypass the pace box altogether?

Thanks a lot

Almost certainly not and you could break your TV! NTL send a lot more than
just TV down their broadband cables so it just won't work.

Hi Paul,

Even if in my case I have a box splitting TV and broadband signals? Is
NTL not sending a standard digital signal? How does it work for PVRs
then?

Thanks for your help

Your digital tuner will need agood quality external aerial in order to
obtain any signal.
Cable uses a different method of broadcast and for this you'll need a
cable box, either as you mention, the pace or perhaps one of these

Your TV has a DVB-T tuner, your (ex-NTL) VirginMedia cable provides a
DVB-C signal, so you'll need to keep the STB.

The TV's analogue tuner should still pick up the analogue
channels on the NTL cable.

And if your tv has the ability to tune the VHF analogue bands you may
get guite a few channels directly on the tv.
