Best 32" HDTV?

We're finally ready to replace a 20" CRT television and a 32" wide-
screen HDTV looks to be the right size.

Our primary use will be to watch DVD. We have an Oppo HD 970 player
which is capable of generating a 1080i signal.

We'd like both HDMI and component video connections, as well as S-
video. DVI might be nice to have but is not critical.

There are a bewildering variety of sets available. Sony alone has three
models. We're far from large stores and have a hard time finding a
place to compare more than a few models.

Good sound is important as we will be using the built-in speakers on
this set.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks.

My Sunday paper had a 6th Avenue Electronics flier in it that showed a 32
"Sony LCD set for $998. See www.6ave.com . I think they ship. I have bought
several things from them. Also, the 32 in Aquos always gets great reviews.
In a 32 inch set you probably can't tell the difference between 1080 and
720; that is why they look so good.

I love my KDL-32XBR1 and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
It's the perfect size for my bedroom; I'm planning on picking up a 46"
or 52" Bravia XBR for my family room.

FYI, hating anyone is uncool.

You cannot beat the 32" Sony Trinitron. If you want the best 32"
picture around, that's the set to go for.
It supports HDMI, Component, 720p and 1080i.
If they could get that sort of picture in a 50" I'd be all over it.
Hands down, no other television like it at that size.

I bought a KDL-V32XBR2. While the image was great, the panel had
clouds of gray that made dark scenes unwatchable. So I returned the
set.

Next, I got a Sharp LC-C3242U on sale, for about half the price of the
Sony. Picture quality is not as good as on the Sony. I am uncertain
whether I will keep it; depends on how well I can align it and a few
other issues.

I'm really looking forward to seeing a 32XBR4. Sony lists that now on
their own site but I have not yet seen it in a store. I'm also
considering the Toshiba 32HL67.
